Laura June Kenny

Laura June Kenny was born in 1931, the worst year of the Great Depression, in the state of Washington. A year later, like so many families of that time, her family gravitated to the entertainment capital of Hollywood, California, looking for work in a warmer climate. However economic times were still tough, and consequently she was given into the sporadic and back-and-forth care of first one, then two foster families.
Both sets of foster parents showered her with love, but one of them introduced her into the glamorous Hollywood of the 1930s and 1940s, and aimed her toward higher education and the desire to write. I came of age deeply influenced by all three families.
Now in her mid- seventies, Laura June lives in Southern California with her husband of four decades, a fellow writer. The enjoy gardening, swimming and dancing, and their nearby grandchildren are "the light of our lives." They continue to edit memoirs for octogenarians, while Laura June transcribes her pioneer great-grandmother's 1874-1896 journal.
WHAT IS MOST IMPORTANT FOR THE WORLD TO KNOW ABOUT ME?
At 75, I am healthy and contented, still valuing my twenty-two years as an ongoing hospice volunteer, as well as my many years of teaching. I continue to write and speak about end-of-life issues, as well. "All we are, in the end, is our stories," is my firm belief. Therefore, it is important that persons, as they approach their senior years, take a long look back and see what a gift life has been! Because I urge others to record their stories, I could do no less than write about my own life journey, --the valleys, the mountain-tops, and the persons I met and loved along the way! The "human condition" is never less than riveting to contemplate, and my favorite expression is the toast, "L'chaim," - "to life!"
