Ann & Farley Olander
![]() |
The Olanders live in Alta Loma, moving there in 1968 from Ames, Iowa, where they met as Iowa State graduate students.
Farley, a metallurgist consulting for Northrop-Grumman, grew up in Denver where the Rocky Mountains influenced his early life. An amateur photographer for some 50 years, he contributed photos to many of Ann's early freelance stories before she worked as a reporter for the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin. Also a former science teacher, Ann now freelances again.
Ann and Farley are avid hikers and mountain lovers. Their family vacations have usually meant mountain exploring in the U.S., Canada or the Alps - often leading to slide-show presentations, similar to those they currently give about their book, Call of the Mountains, the Beauty and Legacy of Southern California's San Jacinto, San Bernardino and San Gabriel Mountains.
In May, 2006, this coffee-table sized book was named Best Regional Non-Fiction at the annual IPPY Awards by Independent Publishers, at Book Expo America in Washington D.C.
